Kids Care – An MLK Day Community Event
January 16, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Please join us on Monday, January 16th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for free museum admission and special activities to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Presented by the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, this event will allow families to spend time together in our exhibits and honor the profound impact that Dr. King had on our country and our world. The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is a National Day of Service, so we invite families to not only play together during their day off—but to support their neighbors through service and learning opportunities!
Event activities:
Free museum admission: The museum will be open to all from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, January 16th. We will close at 1:00.
Service opportunities: Kids and families are invited to participate in two service opportunities:
- Assemble activity kits that will be donated to Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County to support the families they serve. The Iowa Children’s Museum will provide all materials and facilitate kit assembly.
- Donate diapers, pet food, personal care items, or other high-need items to the Coralville Community Food Pantry. Items will be collected at the front desk.
Learning opportunities: During the event, families can view a mobile exhibit from the African American Museum of Iowa. We will also have free books from Early Childhood Iowa and book recommendations from the Coralville Public Library to help families continue the conversation beyond their time at the museum.
Special thanks to the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation for making this event possible!
